矯正をすると英語が上手になる！！

日本人が英語学習をしていると、よく悩まされるのが「R」と「L」、「s」と「th」の発音ではないでしょうか。
日本語にはない複雑な発音方法なので、特に難しいですよね。

これが矯正によって上手になる、とはどういうことでしょう？

実は、発音には歯並びが大きく影響しています。
日本語は、口の前の方で発音するものが多く、あまり口唇周囲筋を使わずとも発音できます。
また、単語を理解するのに、発音があまり大きく影響しないため、歯並びによる影響が問題視されることは多くありません。

しかし、英語は口の奥から唇の先までの広い範囲の口唇周囲筋だけでなく、舌も使って発音します。
歯並びが悪いと、この舌の動きが制限されてしまい、上手に発音できないことがあります。

例えば「R」と「L」は、歯を基準にして舌を動かすので、多くの人に英語を聞き取ってもらうには、良い歯並びと正しい発音が重要になってきます。
「s」と「th」の発音でも同様です。
上下の歯がきれいに噛み合っていないと「th」を発音するとき、空気が抜け過ぎてしまい、正確に発音するのが難しくなります。

「英会話スクールに通って発音の練習をたくさんしているのに、全然上達しない」という人は、「歯並び」が原因かもしれません。

八重歯の矯正は痛い？犬歯を抜歯するの？

八重歯がコンプレックスで笑顔になれない、笑顔に自信が持てないという方もいると思います。
八重歯が原因でコミュニケーションなど、日常生活に支障をきたしているようであれば、矯正することを検討してみましょう。

八重歯を歯列矯正で治療するとなった場合、
・抜歯するの？
・抜歯するならどの歯を抜くの？
・犬歯を抜くのは痛そう…

犬歯が八重歯になる原因は、顎が小さい、歯自体が大きいという問題だけでなく、歯の生える関係、下顎の位置などさまざまです。
矯正で歯並びを治すことによって、八重歯となった犬歯の入るスペースが空くこともあります。
その場合、抜歯せずに矯正することが可能です。

また一般的に、犬歯は歯の根が長く、噛み合わせにとても重要な歯なので、抜歯せずできるだけ残します。
これは、犬歯誘導と呼ばれるもので、犬歯は他の歯に比べて根が長く丈夫なので、食べ物を奥歯で磨り潰す時の顎の運動を支えて誘導する大切な役割を担っているのです。
ただ、犬歯があまりにひどく前に出ていたり、隣の歯の後ろに生えていたり、ひどい虫歯になっていたりする場合は、抜歯をすることもあります。
抜歯しないで治療できるかは、個人差があります。

八重歯は見た目のコンプレックスだけでなく、歯の中での重要な役割を果たせていない可能性があります。
