「歯のクリーニング」の方法と重要性について、数回に渡りご紹介しました。
クリーニングは、歯石を取ったり表面の汚れをキレイにするので、歯がツルツルになるし、
歯周病や虫歯の予防になるという大きなメリットがあります。
しかし、全体の歯の黄ばみにはあまり効果がないため、見た目を気にしている方にはそれほどの効果は感じられません。
歯の黄ばみが気になる方は、歯の内側から色素を分解する「ホワイトニング」治療がおすすめです。
アメリカ発祥のホワイトニングは、20年以上にわたって行われている治療法で、
歯のアンチエイジングを考えている方や結婚式を間近に控えている方などには人気があります。

【歯のホワイトニングとは？】
ホワイトニングとは、黄ばんだ歯を漂白（ブリーチング）し、白くて美しい歯に仕上げる治療法のことです。

ここ数回のメルマガでもご紹介したように、歯のクリーニングでも表面の歯石などを取ることで、
多少は見た目にもキレイになります。
しかし、歯の内部を漂白するホワイトニングに対し、クリーニングは歯の表面の汚れを落とすことを目的としています。
コーヒーや紅茶、茶渋などのステインや、タバコのヤニなどによる着色汚れを除去することはできますが、
象牙の黄ばみを解消する効果はありません。
また、ホワイトニングを施した歯は、着色汚れがつきにくくなるという研究結果が報告されています。
きちんと歯磨きしているのに歯の黄ばみが取れないという場合や、着色汚れを防ぎたい場合は、
ホワイトニングによる漂白を行うことをおすすめします。

【ホワイトニングを行う際の注意点】
●差し歯や詰め物はホワイトニングできない
ホワイトニングは天然歯のみを対象とした治療法なので、差し歯や詰め物などの色を漂白することはできません。
そのため、差し歯や詰め物の部分が浮いてしまうおそれがあります。
調整しながら白くする方法もあるので、歯医者さんにてご相談されることをおすすめします。
●すぐに施術できない場合がある
オフィスホワイトニングは短時間で歯を漂白できるので「結婚式までに歯を白くしたい」など、
特定の日までに白くしたいしたい方におすすめの方法です。
ただ、虫歯や歯周病を患っていたり、たくさんの歯石がついていたりすると、
ホワイトニング前に治療やクリーニングを行わなければなりません。
歯の状態によってはホワイトニングを行うまでに日数を要する可能性もあります。
