定期的に歯医者さんに通って歯石を取ってもらっていますか？
きちんと通っている人は１回で終わることもありますが、歯石除去のために何度も通わなければいけない…という経験をした人も多いのではないでしょうか？
何度も通わなければいけないのはどうして？という質問をいただくことがあります。
まず歯石とは、口の中の汚れ（プラーク）の中の細菌が唾液に含まれるカルシウムやリンなどのミネラル成分と結合し、時間が経って石のように硬くなってしまったものを言います。
歯石が付着していると、虫歯や歯周病になりやすい環境を作る原因となります。
この歯石の除去は、国家試験を合格し熟練した歯科医師、歯科衛生士が行い、歯石が再びつかないようにするための歯磨きのアドバイスも行います。
が、歯石は、長期間放置していればしているほど、硬くこびりつき、取りにくくなっていきます。
そのため、治療の回数もかかってしまうのが現状です。
したがって、歯石取りは3か月に１回、習慣的に歯科医院で除去してもらうことで、回数は少なくなり、健康な歯茎の状態を維持することができるようになります。
なかなか歯石除去に行けていないという人が、これをきっかけに歯科医院に通院してもらえると嬉しいです。
