歯を磨く時などに鏡に写った自分の歯を見て、
「歯が黄色いなあ」「前はこんなに黄色くなかったはずなのに…」と思っている方はいませんか？
歯が黄色くなる（黄色く見える）には、いろいろな理由があります。
歯が黄色くなる理由と、その改善方法を説明します。

【歯が黄色くなる原因】
●着色
色の濃い飲み物・食べ物を回数多く食べる方は歯に色素（ステイン）が付着しやすくなります。
これは飲食物の色素なのですが、一度付着してしまうとブラッシングでは簡単には落ちないほど、強力に付着しています。
コーヒー、紅茶、緑茶、ウーロン茶、赤ワイン、コーラ、ココアなど カレー、ケチャップ、合成着色料などを使用した食品、
たばこや葉巻も着色の原因となります。
●歯石
ブラッシングがうまくできずに磨き残しが多くなるとプラークが硬くなり、歯石となります。
歯石が歯に付着すると、とても汚く見えます。また歯だけでなく、歯茎も腫れてくるためより汚く見えたり、口臭もでてきます。
そのような状態になると、汚れだけではなく「歯周病」という状態になります。
●加齢変化
悲しい現実ですが、年齢とともに歯は黄色くなります。
もともと、象牙質は黄色なのですが、加齢とともにその色が濃くなっていきます。
そして、日々の生活でエナメル質が薄くなる（ブラッシングや咬耗）ことで、象牙質そのものの色が透けて見えてくるようになります。
●むし歯や治療後の詰め物よる変色
むし歯は黒く見えることをみなさんは知っていますよね！
全部黒くなっている訳ではありませんが、むし歯になった歯は黒くなります。
治療を受けた歯でも「詰め物の変色」や「金属による歯の変色」が起こります。
いわゆる経年的劣化というものですが、これらが歯を黄色くみせる原因となります。
また、詰め物や被せ物に金属を使った治療を数多く受けている方は、どうしても黒く見えやすくなります。
●神経がない歯
むし歯などにより治療を受けて「神経をとった歯」や気づかないうちに「神経が死んでしまった歯」は、
時間とともに少しずつ黒ずんでいきます。
特に「神経が死んでしまった歯」は内側から黒くなっているため、しっかりと治療をする必要があります。
●歯の磨きすぎ
間違ったブラッシングをおこなっていると黄色く見えるようになります。
例えば、粗い研磨剤が入った歯磨き粉で磨いていると、少しづつエナメル質が削れて薄くなり、
黄色い象牙質が透けて歯が黄色くなってきます。
研磨剤の入っていない安全な歯磨きペーストを使う事をおすすめします。
【歯を白くする治療方法と気をつけたいこと】
●歯科医院にてクリーニング
一度付着してしまったステインや歯石は歯科医院でとってもらいましょう。
原因がステインだけであれば、除去することで白くきれいな歯になります。
歯石が付着している方は歯周病も併発していることがほとんどです。
歯周病の治療も受けて、歯ぐきもきれいにすることで、よりきれいな白い歯になります。
３ヶ月に一回の定期的な受診で日頃のブラッシングで落としきれていない汚れをとることをお勧めします。
●ホワイトニング
加齢変化などによる着色に、効果の治療方法です。
加齢変化による着色は象牙質の色ですから、ホワイトニングを行うことで白くきれいな歯にすることができます。
●再度の歯科治療
むし歯や治療後の詰め物よる変色に対しては、再度治療を行います。
むし歯や詰め物の変色、金属による歯の変色はホワイトニングでは改善しないため再度、治療を受ける必要があります。
むし歯の治療や詰め物のつめ直しなどになりますが、治療の際に、ホワイトニングやセラミックを受けることで、
より白いきれいな歯にすることができます。
