前回のメルマガで、少しだけ歯科先進国スウェーデンについて触れました。
今回は、そのスウェーデンの歯科事情についてのお話です。
スウェーデンといえば、日本にもあるIKEAが有名だったり、北欧でなんとなくお洒落なイメージがありますよね。
そんなスウェーデンは、予防歯科の先進国として世界をリードしています。
日本はまだ虫歯や歯周病に悩まされる人が多く、予防歯科においては先進国とは言い難いですよね。。スウェーデンも昔は、日本と同じような状況だったそうです。ですが、1970年代から国を挙げて『予防歯科』を推進したことで国民のお口の健康についての意識が高まり、予防歯科の先進国になりました。
今のスウェーデンでは総入れ歯の人はほとんどいないそうです。年齢を重ねても、美味しいものを気にせず食べられる。羨ましいですよね。
そんなスウェーデンと日本の違いはどこにあるのでしょうか？
一番大きいのは医療費の面かもしれません。スウェーデンでは18歳未満の歯科治療は無料です。18歳を超えても歯科治療費の助成制度があり、検査と予防処置のために使用されます。
ですが、スウェーデンの税金はとても高い…。例えば消費前は25％もかかりますし、その他の税金も日本よりはるかに高いのです。
でも医療費がかからないという恩恵のお陰で、国民の9割くらいの人が歯科医院で定期検診を受ける、というのが子供の頃からの習慣になり、それが国民全体の文化となっているそうです。つまり、そういう価値観が根付いているということになります。
日本でも、中学生までは医療費が無料になっている自治体は多いですよね。子どもの頃から定期的に歯科健診を受けることで、スウェーデン人と同じような価値観が根付くようになるといいですよね！そうしたら、日本も予防歯科先進国の仲間入りができる日がくるのではないでしょうか？
