歯周病の治療『SPT』って聞いたことがありますか？

自覚症状が少なく悪化しやすい歯周病

歯周組織（歯茎・セメント質・歯槽骨・歯根膜）に発生する疾患のことを、「歯周病」と言います。
歯周病は自覚症状が少ない病気で、腫れや出血、歯のぐらつきなどの症状に気付いた頃には状態が悪化し、治療に時間がかかったり、抜歯が必要となったりする深刻な病気です。

歯周病は自覚症状が少ない病気で、腫れや出血、歯のぐらつきなどの症状に気付いた頃には状態が悪化し、治療に時間がかかったり、抜歯が必要となったりする深刻な病気です。
歯周病の進行度合いの一つの目安に、歯周ポケット（歯と歯茎の間の溝）の深さがあります。
中程度～重度の歯周病の場合、適切な治療を受け一時的に病状の安定がみられたとしても、歯周ポケットが深い状態のままであることもあります。
このような場合は、歯周病の再発が懸念されるため、安定した状態を維持するために継続して行う治療である「SPT（supportive periodontal therapy）」へ移行することもあります。
中程度～重度の歯周病の場合、適切な治療を受け一時的に病状の安定がみられたとしても、歯周ポケットが深い状態のままであることもあります。
このような場合は、歯周病の再発が懸念されるため、安定した状態を維持するために継続して行う治療である「SPT（supportive periodontal therapy）」へ移行することもあります。
SPTで行われる主な治療内容は、下記のようなものがあります。
■歯周病の誘発因子の治療
■適切なブラッシング方法と食生活の見直しなどの指導
■専用の器具を使用したプラークや歯石の除去
SPTを行うため、定期的に歯医者さんを受診することは、再発の早期発見にも役立ちます。
SPTの通院頻度はお口の状態によって異なりますが、およそ1～3ヶ月です。
歯周病の治療のためには、毎日自分でする歯磨きはもちろん、お口の健康管理のプロによるメンテナンスやケアもとても大切です。

Have you heard of “SPT” for treatment of periodontal disease?
Diseases occurring in periodontal tissues (gums, cementum, alveolar bone, periodontal ligament) are called “periodontal diseases”.
Periodontal disease is a disease with less subjective symptoms, the condition gets worse when you notice symptoms such as swelling, bleeding, tooth wobbles, it is a serious disease that takes time to treat and requires tooth extraction .
One measure of the progress of periodontal disease is the depth of the periodontal pocket (the groove between the tooth and the gum).
In the case of moderate to severe periodontal disease, periodontal pockets may remain in a deep state even if appropriate medical treatment is undertaken to temporarily stabilize the condition.
In such a case, there is concern about the recurrence of periodontal disease, so we may shift to “SPT (supportive periodontal therapy)” which is a continued treatment to maintain a stable condition.

■ Removal of plaque and calculus using dedicated equipment

To do the SPT, regular visit to the dentist is helpful for early detection of recurrence.
The visit frequency of SPT depends on the state of your mouth, but it is about 1 to 3 months.
